Leading with Empathy

WHO WE’RE WATCHING:
N4 student leaders from NY and PA joining forces…

Narrative 4 student leaders from University Heights High School (UHHS) in the Bronx, New York and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH) near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania united last week to share best practices and exchange stories. The UHHS students traveled from the Bronx to Philadelphia to meet their N4 peers (and have some fun!).

Both cohorts of students are trained in story exchange facilitation and are leading the charge at their schools to integrate N4 programs in all grade levels. At UHHS, students are trained to become facilitators in their sophomore year after experiencing the story exchange as freshmen. You can read more about the UHHS student leadership model here. SCH trains student facilitators to lead the entire school through story exchanges during their annual daylong diversity conference, “SCHout.” Read more about the SCH student-led model here.

Next week, we’ll be covering the student leaders who pioneered our first field exchange program this past year.

WHERE WE’RE TAKING THE STAGE:
Tory Burch Foundation’s Embrace Ambition Summit…

Last week, Narrative 4 was featured at the Tory Burch Foundation’s Embrace Ambition summit in New York City. Heather Mitchell, a board member, and Kandice Cole, N4 Program Associate, commanded the stage as they introduced our programs to over 1,000 people. Heather and Kandice were part of a rockstar lineup of speakers, including Julianne Marguiles, Lindsey Vonn, Margaret Atwood, and Michele Norris.

The entire audience took part in an object exchange that exemplified the power of stories to create connections. Special thanks to the Tory Burch Foundation for having us! You can watch the entire summit here (hint: N4 starts at 3:42:00!)

WHAT WE’RE HIGHLIGHTING:
Student-led fundraising…

Gustaw Marciszewski has been a student ambassador of Narrative 4 Ireland for over four years now. In his words, “Narrative 4 has changed my life.” Gustaw recently won the Pastoral Award at his school in Limerick for his engagement with Narrative 4 in the school and community. Fellow N4 student-ambassadors Alex McCarthy and Amee O’Connor Berkery also won the award. Well done!

This week, Gustaw is running the 10km Great Limerick Run in support of Narrative 4. He is 25% of the way toward reaching his goal of 400 EUR! Let’s support Gustaw and his peers as they harness the power of the story exchange to create empathy and improve their lives and community. Many thanks to him and all of our amazing supporters.
