Arts Integration

9-12 Grade

45+ Mins

Resource author: Patrick Rosal

How can we use materials from the world around to collage, montage or remix?

During this lesson students will use observations from the world around them to create a collage, montage or remix.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to use materials and observations from their surroundings to inspire their art.

Materials

  • Print, film or sound materials to create collage/montage/remixes with
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Recommended Poem: “A Scavenger’s Ode to the Turntable” by Patrick Rosal

Preview Lesson Plan

  • Say: Today we are going to be using that poem as inspiration to unlock our curiosity. In this activity, you will be tasked with observing the world around you, collecting materials and creating a collage, montage or a remix. As art forms, collage, montage, and remix are cousins. All forms involve reusing material created by others.
  • Before sending students to work on their collage/montage/remix, make sure students know what each of these mean. After defining these terms together, give students time to determine which direction they would like to take.
