To Prepare

Outside of courage and an open mind, the only thing you need to bring is one story from your life that you’re willing to share based upon one of the prompts below. Remember, each of us is made up of countless stories, but during our time together we would like for you to share just one story from your life that is no longer than 3-4 minutes.

Prompts

  • Think about someone in your life who believed in you. What impact did that have on your life?
  • Tell a story from your life when you witnessed, or participated in, an act of compassion or kindness.
  • Think of an essential story from your life that is emblematic of who you are. The story should reveal some essence of you (perhaps a current you, a former you, etc.). The story can invoke any emotion and be anchored in joy, pain, embarrassment, love...
  • Bring an object of personal significance (or a photo or representation of it) that broadens the story of you. It can be anything—an heirloom, toy, photo, or lucky charm. At our gathering, you’ll share a 3-4 minute story about its deep meaning to you, whether poignant or funny.
  • Tell a story about a meaningful moment you have experienced during your childhood. Your story can be anchored in joy, pain, connection, hope, fear...
  • Tell a story about a time you felt underestimated, overlooked, misunderstood or deeply grateful or connected to someone from a different generation. What was your age or life stage when the story occurred? How did you respond, and what did you learn from the experience?
