Introduction

“Listening actively takes many skills and strategies. You probably know these listening tips already, but let’s take some dedicated time to focus on them, one at a time.”

Activity

  • Split students into pairs or allow students to split themselves.
  • If you have an odd number, two listeners and a speaker will work just fine

“With your partner you are going to chat about a prompt. While you are talking together, you are going to focus on the assigned listening skill.”

  • See the attached chart and work through each skill and prompt briefly. Give time for every person to answer and listen to their partner.
  • Order does not matter. You can start with any listening focus and attach any prompt to that focus.
