Inspiring the Incarcerated

We built bridges through iron bars by hosting Story Exchanges at the Washington D.C. jail.

Narrative 4 recently partnered with the Georgetown Prisons & Justice Initiative’s The Prison Scholars Program, sending three facilitators to lead Story Exchanges for 30 incarcerated participants at the Washington D.C. Jail. These inmates came from many walks of life, and exchanged stories to see each other – and feel seen – like never before.

Following the event, Narrative 4’s Northeast Regional Manager, Jen McCool,  received this reflection from one participant: “Thank you all for coming, as the entire experience was creative and needed, especially in a space that values bravado and image, which devalues really listening and seeing others. You all were well received, deservedly so.”

We’re honored to have inspired these inmates, and truthfully, they inspired us too. This event reminded us that no matter what direction life takes, stories have the power to open our minds and free our hearts.
