Art Exchange
How can the art story exchange deepen our connection to others in our community?
During the art exchange, participants will create a piece of art based on a true story from their life based on a story exchange prompt. Then, they will share that story, and their art, with a partner. After they exchange stories, they will join a larger group and retell their partner’s story in the first person. Participants will be given time for reflection and closing.

Recommendation: Share prompts and create art on a day prior to the art exchange.
- Before participating in an art exchange, students will need to create a piece of art. First, share the story (art) exchange prompts you wish for students to use (see prompts below or you may create your own). They will choose one prompt that inspires a true story from their lives. Using this prompt and the story they have in mind, they will create a piece of art. This art piece is up to the facilitator and/or participants. For example, with younger students (K-5), creating a simple drawing can be a great way to scaffold storytelling. For older students (6-12), adults, or artists, the type of art they create may be subjective. This could be based on the participants current art skills, focus and the goal of the story exchange.
