Lesson Plan

Note: Many times, when we run story exchanges, we expect our participants to be able to tell stories without much planning. However, for students this just might not be a helpful practice. Below is just one way you can support students in brainstorming stories prior to the story exchange. It can be helpful to give students a story map they can use to plan their story. This can be our Narrative 4 story map or can be a graphic organizer more familiar to them, such as one they have used in class.

Reminder of the Story Exchange

2 minutes

  • Say: Today you are going to be brainstorming the stories that you would like to use for our upcoming story exchange. As a reminder, the story exchange happens when two people are paired together and share stories from their lives. They then join a larger group to retell one another’s story using first person pronouns (I, me, my). After that, they reflect on the experience.
