What can we learn about ourselves through investigating how we listen to others?

During this lesson, students will take time to reflect on how they listen best and recognize the ways that other people listen. They will take time to practice different ways that people may listen and reflect on not only how they listen best, but also recognizing that active listening can look different for different people.

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Say: If you entered a room and saw someone listening deeply, what would they be doing? Reflect to yourself. We will share out.
  • Allow students to share their thinking with the whole group. There are no correct answers but rather this is a great way to gather student’s understanding of deep listening.
