Deep Listening With Art
How can listening deeply help us work together with others?
During this lesson students will pair with a classmate/community member and listen to directions to create a piece of art. One student will create a piece of art and give directions to their partner to see how closely they can recreate their artwork.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to practice listening deeply to a peer with the goal of creating a piece of artwork.

Introduction

- To begin today’s activity students will be following teacher directions to draw a sun.
- Say: Today we are going to practice our deep listening skills. To start, I am going to give directions on how to draw a sun. Your job is to follow my directions and see if you are able to draw the exact same sun as I did. Share the following directions.
- “Today you are going to draw a sun by following these steps. First, use an orange marker to make a circle at the top of your paper.” (Wait for students to finish). “Then use a yellow marker to draw lines coming out of the circle as rays.” (Wait for students to finish). “Last, draw a face on your sun.” (Wait for students to finish).
