How can we use art to tell someone else’s story?

During this lesson students will create a collaborative poem together. From that poem, students will choose a line to represent through art. They will draw a visual representation of someone else’s line from the poem and reflect together.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to create a collaborative poem with their classmates/community.

Students will be able to create a visual representation from someone else’s words.

Part One: Collaborative I Saw Poem- class creates an “I Saw” poem together based on a prompt.

10 minutes

  • Say: Today we are going to start by creating a poem together. This poem is called an “I saw…” poem. This is because every line begins with the words “I saw”. I am going to read an example to you now.
