Where have we experienced empathy in our everyday lives?

During this lesson, students will work in a small group to create posters showcasing what empathy looks like, feels like and sounds like.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to determine the meaning of the word empathy.

Students will recognize what empathy looks like in action.

Materials

  • Poster paper
  • Markers and/or crayons

Part One: What is Empathy?

    • Begin as a whole group. 
  • Say: Today we are going to be talking about the word empathy*. What does empathy mean to you?

Allow students to share their responses and engage in a whole group discussion. As a group, determine the definition of empathy for your community. Narrative 4 defines
